Writing a Novel
March 8, 2008 on 9:13 pm | In Miscellaneous | No CommentsSomeone asked me if it was tedious writing a novel. Not in a million years. It is the most exciting thing I have ever done and I have written three. It is like living in another world that is just as real as the one you are really in. It is sad to finish a novel and have that other world come to an end. Often the characters name themselves and take action by themselves, which is amazing. They show the author how to make the plot move in the right direction. The author can call upon his characters for help if the plot bogs down. And like poetry, fiction can sometimes choose its own ending.
Introducing Mary
February 26, 2008 on 7:28 pm | In News | No CommentsWelcome to my web site. I would like to tell you a little about myself. I write under my name, Mary Brunini McArdle, and produce art work under the name M. Beatrice. I have been seriously writing for years, beginning as a poet. A teacher once told me writing poetry gives one a command of language; from there one can learn to write fiction. My first attempts weren’t so great, but now I am publishing fiction and winning prizes.
I have a degree in History with a minor in English from the University of Dallas and continuing or graduate courses in English, History, Military Strategy, Marine Education, and Art. Love animals, especially cats.
I love color pencil and watercolor pencil art and designing handmade doll clothes. Also proud of my publication credits, especially those in COMBAT MAGAZINE. Unusual for a girl to specialize in Military History, don’t you think? Of course I am long past being a “girl.”
My new book reads like a mystery, with danger to the female protagonist increasing every step of the way. The story is set in Central Mississippi with brief interludes in Omaha and ends in Memphis.
I invite your questions and promise to update this page weekly, so hope to see you again soon. Mary
